About Hayward Lakes Report

A living, lake-by-lake conditions tracker for the Hayward lakes — and a free Friday email that sums up the week.

What this is

Conditions on the Hayward lakes change by the bay, not by the county. We track about two dozen lakes in Sawyer County and within roughly 30 miles of Hayward: ice-on and ice-off, open water, water temps, levels, and what the fish are doing.

Where reports come from

First-hand reports from people on the water, plus public sources we always credit — including the Hayward Lakes Visitors Bureau Outdoor Reports, the Wisconsin DNR and local trail associations. We are an independent publication and are not affiliated with the Visitors Bureau or any agency.

Trail sources

Our trail notes are short summaries — always check the source for official, day-of status. We credit and link: the Sawyer County Snowmobile & ATV Alliance (the county's rider organization; their Facebook page is the best place for day-of updates), the Hayward Lakes Visitors Bureau ATV/UTV and snowmobile trail-condition pages, CAMBA (Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association; status via TrailBot), and the American Birkebeiner (Birkie) trail conditions. See the current summary on Current Conditions.

Contributors program

Bait shops, fishing guides, resorts and regulars are the heart of this. Contributors get credit (and a link) on every report they send, early access to the Friday issue, and a contributor badge on lake pages. Send your first report to get started — a full contributor sign-up is coming soon.

Independent

Hayward Lakes Report is its own publication. It is not the brand of any lodging business. Occasionally an issue may include a small “Stay on the lake” tip for visitors.
